Vincent Kompany faces a selection headache with defensive injuries mounting up as Bayern Munich’s injury crisis worsens ahead of their Bundesliga clash at Augsburg.
Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano both suffered injuries during the international break. The former suffered a torn cruciate ligament and is expected to be sidelined for at least six months, while Upamecano has a knee injury. On top of that, Hiroki Ito returned to action last weekend against St. Pauli but suffered a broken metatarsal and is sidelined for the remainder of the season. Since his move from Stuttgart in the summer, the Japanese defender has managed just 249 minutes across six games in the Bundesliga.
Raphaël Guerreiro should start in absence of Davies and Ito, but the Portuguese defender sat out of team training on Wednesday, and so it’s unclear as to how fit the 31-year-old will be.
Aleksandar Pavlović and Kinglsey Coman are also sidelined.
That leaves an attack of Michael Olise, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané behind Harry Kane, with limited options on the bench: Thomas Müller (35), Jonah Kusi-Asare (17).
