After Manchester United rebuffed Napoli’s £40 million bid for Alejandro Garnacho in the winter window, it’s thought the club will consider any potential proposals that arrive from next month.

Indeed, the Argentine is one of a host of stars deemed sellable by INEOS, with only the likes of Amad, Bruno Fernandes, Patrick Dorgu and, perhaps surprisingly due to his age, Harry Maguire said to be immune to the forthcoming summer overhaul.

Garnacho has enjoyed a stellar transition from youth prospect to highly-rated starter; the fact that he boasts a whopping 142 appearances for the club before his 21st birthday is a hugely commendable feat in itself.

Now, after five years plying his trade with the 20-time champions, both parties may decide a transfer is necessary in the coming months.

There’s no doubting that Garnacho harbours some real attacking threat and prowess, but fans have begun questioning whether his game will develop beyond where he’s currently at — to a level that warrants a long-term stay and regular starts, anyway.

Whether United would offload the academy graduate to a direct Premier League while he’s still refining his abilities is another question, as there is one suitor waiting in the wings to test their luck for his signature.

Chelsea’s interest in Garnacho: the state of play

Chelsea were heavily linked with Garnacho throughout January, presumably because United had made it clear he could be sold if the price was right.

The Blues opted against a formal bid or approach, though they did hold talks with the player’s representatives. At one stage, Garnacho’s agent posted a picture on social media of him attending a match at Stamford Bridge at a time when speculation was rife over the youngster making the move down South.

Nizaar Kinsella has assured that Enzo Maresca’s side ‘remain admirers’ of Garnacho amidst a time when a left winger has been classed as one of their top priorities.
