Puerto Rico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica get second wins in Women’s U-20 Qualifiers

MIAMI – The 2025 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Qualifiers continued on Saturday as 24 nations continue their quests towards the Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship and FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Groups B, D, and F gave fans great performances on matchday three. Angie Alvarenga, Maya Buerger, Maya Raghunandanan, Keisy Taylor, Sheika Scott, and Zyana Rogers having multiple-goal performances for their teams.
The six group winners will advance to the CU20 Championship, which will determine the four Concacaf representatives for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Honduras 0, Puerto Rico 3
Puerto Rico earned a 3-nil win against Honduras in Group B at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
A foul in the area by goalkeeper Maria Jimenez called for a penalty for Puerto Rico. Ashley McMahon struck the spot kick into the left bottom corner in the 30’ to put Las Boricuas ahead.
Evelyn Ordoñez committed an own goal in the 72’ while attempting to clear the ball, extending Puerto Rico’s lead by two goals.
Puerto Rico secured its second win from a corner kick in the 80’, as Gemma Gillespie sent the ball to the back of the net.
With this result, Puerto Rico sits at the top of Group B. Honduras, with one game left to play, is out of the running to qualify for the 2025 Concacaf W U-20 Championship.
U.S. Virgin Islands 0, El Salvador 6
El Salvador earned a 6-nil win against the U.S. Virgin Islands in Group B at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Alexis Butz started the goal count for La Selecta in the 24’, ready to capitalize on a set piece in the box.
Maya Buerger got her first goal of the evening, and the second for El Salavdor, in the 15’ with a right-footed shot in the area.
A banger from outside the box by Angie Alvarenga in the 52’ became the third goal for the Central Americans. The no. 10 finished the game with a brace, getting the ball in the back of the net with a header in the 80’.
Makayla Marin joined the goalscorers list in the 87’ with a left-footed touch in front of goalkeeper Kyliz Osorio, the fifth goal for El Salvador.
Buerger got the sixth and final goal for El Salvador in the 90’+1’.
Saint Kitts and Nevis 0, Jamaica 4
Jamaica earned a 4-nil win against Saint Kitts and Nevis in Group D at Estadio Nacional de Fútbol in Managua, Nicaragua.
Una Lue opened the scoring in the 14’, being in the right place in the box to push a loose ball into the net.
Maya Raghunandanan struck in the 24’ with a banger from outside the box to double Jamaica's lead.
Raghunandanan struck again in the 26’, replicating her previous shot, this time sending the ball to the back of the net with her left foot.
The fourth and last goal for the Reggae Girlz came in the 45’ from Destiny Powell, getting in the box to strike with a right-footed shot.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines 0, Nicaragua 5
Nicaragua earned a 5-nil win against Saint Vincent and the Grenadines in Group D at Estadio Nacional de Fútbol in Managua, Nicaragua.
Adriana Munguia opened the score in the 14’ with a left-footed banger.
Perla Garache earned her goal in the 18’, giving Nicaragua its second of the match.
Daniela Manzanares struck the third goal in the 49’, sending a free kick to the back of the net.
Munguia was ready in the goal line to push the ball and give Nicaragua their fourth goal in the 69’.
A header by Garache in the 85’ gave La Azul y Blanco its fifth and final goal of the night.
Cayman Islands 0, Costa Rica 7
Costa Rica took the top position in Group F with a 6-nil win against the Cayman Islands at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.
Keisy Taylor gave Las Ticas an early lead in the 2’.
Sheika Scott scored her third goal in the tournament, and the second for Costa Rica, in the 7’.
Scott got a brace in the 30’ with a right-footed shot from the top of the box.
A corner kick gave a chance for Fabiana Sanabria to give Las Ticas their fourth goal in the 37’.
Taylor added another goal to her performance in the 45’+1’, for the fifth goal by Costa Rica.
The sixth goal for the Central Americans came in the second half with a header by Tiara Ruiz in the 56’.
Lucia Panigua closed the game for Costa Rica with the seventh and final goal in the 88’.
Aruba 2, Guatemala 2
A thrilling 2-2 draw between Aruba and Guatemala saw split points in Group F at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.
The Central Americans got the lead in the 35’ thanks Yaretzy Fernandez.
The Caribbeans pushed for an equalizer, arriving through the boots of Zyana Rogers, who got past the Guatemalan defensive line to send a left-footed shot in the 43’. It marked the first goal for Aruba in the 2025 edition.
Rogers reappeared in the box in the 65’ to give Aruba the lead for the first time in the tournament.
Guatemala captain Dina Polanco evened things out in the 89’.
