This youngster could be heading out of Elland Road this summer.

Mateo Joseph could be set to become one of the first players to exit Elland Road this summer, following Leeds United’s promotion to the Premier League.

The Whites finished with 100 points and secured their return to the top table of English football with two games to spare, but now work must begin behind the scenes to ensure that their squad is capable of competing with the country’s best teams.

That will naturally mean that several players will also have to leave the club to make room for the necessary improvements.

It is understood that Joseph could be one of the first to leave the newly promoted side this summer, with a European team set to open discussions with him imminently.

Real Betis are set to target Mateo Joseph

After having a £10m bid for Joseph rejected in the January transfer window, La Liga outfit Real Betis are reportedly preparing to continue their pursuit of the 21-year-old this summer.

According to the Spanish news outlet, Mundo Betis, Los Verdiblancos are believed to be preparing to enter talks with Joseph as soon as their season ends. Manuel Pellegrini’s side will conclude their campaign in Wroclaw on 28th May, when they take on Chelsea in the UEFA Conference League final.

The former Spain and England youth international has struggled for regular minutes during the Whites’ promotion push this term, and now it looks like he could well move on to pastures new for next season.

If Betis are to get a deal done, then they will have to ensure they make it a worthwhile sale for Leeds, who have reportedly set a £12.75m price tag for their young forward.

Joseph will have concerns over his gametime

Having made valuable contributions in pre-season, this year looked like it could prove to be something of a breakthrough season for Joseph, but unfortunately, that just hasn’t materialised.

With Joel Piroe enjoying another excellent season at the centre of the Whites’ attack, Joseph has been forced to settle for limited minutes.

The youngster finished the season with three goals and three assists in the league, but started just 11 games. With Daniel Farke’s side now going into the top-flight next season, it’s highly unlikely that opportunities will become any more frequent for the former academy graduate.

It appears as though strengthening their attack is one of Leeds’ top priorities this summer, having already been linked with the likes of Everton frontman Beto, as well as Newcastle’s Callum Wilson.

Moves for either could easily see Joseph forced further towards the exit.

The path from Leeds to Betis has been a well-trodden one in recent years, with both Diego Llorente and Marc Roca having swapped West Yorkshire for Sevilla over the last few seasons.

Joseph looks like he could be the next player to make that switch, in a move that would hopefully provide him with the game time and exposure he needs to develop.
