Real Madrid defeated Girona 2-0 at the Bernabeu to them level on points with Barcelona at the top of La Liga.

Scorers: Modrić 41', Vini Jr. 83'

The opening goal came just four minutes before half-time as Luka Modrić boke down the Girona resistance with a stunning strike from all of 30 yards.

A ball came his way from a Rodrygo corner, and the Croatian icon steadied himself before smashing the ball past Paulo Gazzaniga.

Girona offered little in attack but stayed in the game throughout, only succumbing in the 83rd minute to some brilliance from Kylian Mbappé and Vini Jr.

The two superstars combined for a lovely give and go that saw the Brazilian toe poke the ball past Gazzaniga and seal the three points.

The win moves Real Madrid into second, a point clear of Atlético de Madrid and level with Barcelona. They are behind their greatest rivals on goal difference with 13 games to go in the league season.
