Vinicius Jr. had a moment to cherish on Wednesday as he led Real Madrid onto the pitch for the first time as captain.
At just 24 years old, he took on the responsibility in the Copa del Rey semi-final first leg against Real Sociedad. The match ended in a narrow 1-0 victory for Los Blancos, making the occasion even more memorable for the Brazilian.

Wearing the captain’s armband for Real Madrid is an honour that only a select few have experienced. For Vinicius, it was a surreal moment—one he had never truly imagined.
Having spent years at the club, working tirelessly to establish himself as a key player, he now finds himself not just leading the attack but also leading the team.
“It’s something very special to be able to play here for so long and at 24 years old to play my first match as captain. It’s very special for me and my family, after everything we’ve been through to get here,” he told Real Madrid TV.
“It is something different because you never imagine what will happen to you. And I am happy to be able to enter the semi-finals of the Cup as captain of the best club in the world.”

As he continues his journey, Vinicius is already looking ahead. His next appearance will mark his 300th game for Real Madrid, a testament to his consistency and impact since joining.
But he is far from satisfied. He is eager to keep pushing forward, aiming for 400, 500, and beyond, determined to leave a lasting legacy at the club.
“It is something I had never dreamed of. In the next match, I will reach 300 matches, but I already want 400 and 500 and make history at this club,” he noted.

Reflecting on the match against Real Sociedad, Vinicius was pleased with how the team performed. He acknowledged that Real Madrid followed the tactical instructions given by the coach, particularly in defence.
“We played very well and defended, as the coach asked us to. And we won with a great goal from Endrick.”
With the season reaching its decisive phase, Vinicius believes the team is finding their best form at the perfect time, ready for the crucial fixtures ahead.
“We are reaching our best form at the best moment of the season, when the games we like to play arrive,” he concluded.
