Real Madrid appear to be losing the race to sign Antonio Cordero, with Newcastle United emerging as the overwhelming favourites to land the Spanish Under-19 international, according to a report from MARCA.

For weeks, speculation has surrounded the future of the Malaga forward, with both Real Madrid and Barcelona reportedly keen on securing his signature.

Initially, Barcelona were believed to have an advantage due to their strong relationship with Cordero’s agent, Pini Zahavi.

However, the situation has shifted, and Newcastle, a club currently competing for Champions League qualification in the Premier League, are now in pole position to finalise a deal.

Cordero’s rise at Malaga

At just 18 years old, Cordero has already made history at Malaga, having scored the crucial goal that secured the club’s promotion last season.

This campaign, he has continued his impressive development, playing 29 matches and contributing five goals and six assists.

His performances have cemented his status as a key figure in Malaga’s squad, making him one of the most sought-after young talents in Spanish football.

Despite Malaga’s repeated attempts to renew his contract, which expires on 30 June 2025, Cordero and his agent have consistently declined offers. With no agreement in sight, the player is set to leave as a free agent in the summer.

Newcastle’s growing presence in Spanish football

Newcastle have developed a strong reputation for scouting and signing young talent from Spanish football in recent years.

Their latest target, Cordero, is seen as a player with significant potential and a bright future ahead.

While Barcelona could still make a last-minute move to alter the course of negotiations, all signs currently point to Cordero heading to the Premier League.

Unless there is a dramatic change, the Malaga forward is expected to begin his next chapter in English football, with Newcastle positioning themselves as the clear favourites to complete the transfer.
