As Real Madrid begin shaping their plans for the next season, fresh reports suggest that Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez is eager to join the Spanish giants.

According to Defensa Central, the Argentine star has made his intentions clear, and his representatives have already taken steps to push the move forward.

Despite winning two trophies this season, Real Madrid’s overall performance has fallen short of early expectations.

Club president Florentino Perez had warned that matching last season’s form would be a challenge, and now, with the 2024-25 season entering its final stretch, the focus is shifting towards strengthening the squad for the future.

Real Madrid keeping a close eye

Fernandez is one of the names under serious consideration in Valdebebas. Real Madrid’s top decision-makers, including Perez and Jose Angel Sanchez, are working behind the scenes to identify quality reinforcements.

As such, the Argentine international has long dreamed of playing at the Santiago Bernabeu. In fact, club scout Juni Calafat has been tracking his progress for quite some time.

However, there is a major obstacle in the way: money. Chelsea are not interested in letting the player go for cheap. They have set the price at €80 million, and so far, there is no sign of them budging.

While Madrid appreciate Fernandez’s talent, there’s hesitation due to his similarity to Fede Valverde, who already plays a key role in Carlo Ancelotti’s setup.

Madrid remain cautious over price tag

Although there is real interest from the Spanish capital, Madrid’s directors are taking a cautious approach. Spending €80 million on a player with a profile close to Valverde’s is something the club is still debating internally.

Fernandez is popular within certain circles at Madrid, but there is no clear agreement on whether the deal makes sense from both a sporting and financial standpoint.

For now, the former Benfica star remains on Real Madrid’s radar, but unless Chelsea lower their demands or Madrid change their stance, the move remains uncertain.
