Real Madrid prodigy poised for prominent role under Xabi Alonso – report | OneFootball

A managerial change always arrives with modifications in the prominence of players, and Real Madrid look set for the same as Carlo Ancelotti is set to leave the club.

Xabi Alonso is rumoured to be the top candidate to replace the Italian coach, and his hierarchy may well differ significantly from that of Ancelotti who usually preferred veterans and bigger names as part of his plan.

One player who is expected to benefit the most from Alonso’s arrival, as reported by AS, is Arda Guler, for the new manager is a massive fan of his quality.

The story of a loan

As relayed by the Spanish outlet, Alonso has been following Guler for a long time now and has openly been a fan of the Turkish star’s quality. In fact, he even wanted to sign him for Bayer Leverkusen given his lack of minutes at Real Madrid.

The midfield sensation declined the offer at the time and made it clear that he would fight through his situation with perseverance and earn a starting place at the club. Yet, he has barely had any minutes under Ancelotti.

Now, however, Alonso himself is set to take over at Real Madrid and it will come as no surprise if he instantly instates Guler as one of the more important pieces in his project.

After all, Los Blancos have struggled in the midfield department this season and fixing it will be key if the new coach is to stabilise the ship.

Guler came on in the recent Copa del Rey final and had a huge impact on the night, not only improving the tempo of the game but also directly providing the assist for Aurelien Tchouameni’s goal.

At this point, he has even completed 50 games with Real Madrid and the club recently shelled out a bonus of €4 million to Fenerbahce for the same.
