Real Madrid endured a difficult night on Wednesday against Arsenal. Amid much expectation over a potential comeback win, the reigning European champions fell to a 2-1 defeat at home, thereby getting eliminated from the UEFA Champions League.
To make things worse, it appears Real Madrid’s star player Kylian Mbappe picked up a sprain, which had put doubts about his participation in the upcoming Copa Del Rey final against Barcelona.
As reported by to Diario AS, Mbappe suffered a painful twist to his right ankle with just 18 minutes left on the clock.
The incident happened when Declan Rice went in for a sliding challenge. Mbappe tried to leap over him but landed awkwardly, causing his ankle to buckle in what looked like a nasty movement.
Initial tests suggest it’s a mild sprain, and the club has indicated that it isn’t too serious. More thorough scans will be conducted over the next 48 hours, but for now, there’s positivity surrounding his availability for the Copa Del Rey final.

Mbappe was already suspended for the weekend La Liga clash against Athletic Bilbao. He was expected to return for the midweek game against Getafe and, more importantly, the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona at La Cartuja.
Incidentally, the fact that Mbappe won’t be available this weekend should give him the time he requires to get back to full fitness, so that he can appear against Barcelona in the Copa Del Rey final.
Mbappe’s potential presence in the final could be a major relief for Real Madrid, who have struggling with form and will bank on the Frenchman to get them over the line against a Barcelona defence, which was exposed by Borussia Dortmund recently.
