Thank you for a memorable day, Leipzig!
On Sunday, hundreds of thousands of participants from around the globe joined forces to run for those who are unable to in the Wings for Life World Run.
The run held in Leipzig, passing through and around the Red Bull Arena, saw 1,800 people take part, making it the largest app run in Germany. In comparison with the previous year, the number of participants had doubled. On top of that, 200 kids ran in the Bullis Bande Run.
There were many unforgettable moments in store for those who took part in Leipzig since the day after their spectacular 3-3 draw with Bayern München, our boys were on hand to provide support for all the runners, as well as handing out snacks and drinks. Xavi, Castello Jr. & co. also tirelessly signed autographs and took selfies with fans. The runners passed through the Red Bull Arena, with participants stepping onto the same grass on which Yussi Poulsen had netted his dramatic late equaliser against FC Bayern merely hours beforehand. The route even included the Mixed Zone, where players and head coach Zsolt Löw give post-match interviews, as well as the RBL Wall of Fame depicting our club legends. The RBL women's team formed a proportion of the Wings for Life World Run's participants, using the route to keep leg muscles moving after their match away in Leverkusen.Willi Orban and Giovanna Hoffmann sounded the klaxons to signal the start of the 12th WfLWR in Leipzig. Dominik Weidner covered the most ground of any of the city's participants, eventually being caught by the virtual catcher car at the 43.62km mark after having run for more than four hours.
It is great to see so many people from Leipzig come together and give it their all for a good cause at the Wings for Life World Run around the Red Bull Arena.Following the unmatched support we received when taking on Bayern, the runners deserved extra backing from us today. It's really nice to just be able to drink a couple Red Bull and cheer people on!
