Referee chosen for Italy-Germany quarter-final: History with Spalletti | OneFootball

French referee Francois Letexier has been selected as the referee for the upcoming Nations League quarter-final between Italy and Germany in San Siro on Thursday.

It will be an all-French officiating team for Italy-Germany. Letexier will be joined by assistants Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni, fourth official Romain Lissorgue and VARs Jerome Brisard and Bastian Dechepy.

Letexier, coincidentally, was the referee chosen to officiate Luciano Spalletti’s first ever game in charge of the Italy national team: a 1-1 draw with North Macedonia in September 2023. That game was the only previous meeting between Letexier and Spalletti.

Letexier operated in Ligue 1 in his native France, but has also taken charge of six Champions League matches, and one apiece in the Europa and Conference Leagues this season.

Letexier has officiated three matches involving Italian sides this season: Milan’s 2-1 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, sending off Yunus Musah in the process, Fiorentina’s 2-1 Conference League loss against APOEL Nicosia and most recently, Roma’s 3-2 Europa League win over Porto.

Moise Kean and Pietro Comuzzo of Fiorentina are the only two players who have been involved in a game Letexier has taken charge of this season, as there are no Milan or Roma representatives in the current Italy squad.
