The talent within FC Barcelona is unquestionable, and the team is fully aware of it. Despite some underwhelming seasons in recent years, the Catalan giants are now back to competing against the best of the best. To accomplish that, however, certain things at Barcelona have definitely changed.
One such thing is the introduction of some new tactics that Hansi Flick has implemented. The high-line, for instance, is one such tactic that has allowed Barcelona to secure some major victories but it has also needed the specific specialties of certain players more than others.
While the likes of both Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez have adapted well to this new tactic, Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo has not been as effective. However, as revealed in a recent interview, Araujo remains full of praise for his young teammate despite his lack of prominence.
As highlighted by SPORT, the Barcelona defender commended the 18-year-old centre-back and pointed out some of his more notable traits as well:
“Pau is very good, very good. And very intelligent, he reminds me a lot of Piqué when it comes to finding through passes. He has a lot of personality, despite being so young. We’ve found that ‘feeling,’ also with Íñigo (Martinez) now. Pau is important for the club and for us. I hope he continues like this for a long time.”
That comparison with Barcelona legend Gerard Pique, in particular, is something that resonates with what the fanbase thinks of the player as well. A naturally gifted ball-playing defender, Cubarsi has the ability to almost always pick out an effective pass and deliver it perfectly regardless of the difficulty, a quality that the former player also possessed.
However, as for Araujo himself, his objective is to now fight for more opportunities. He has already signed a long-term renewal with the club, but that will only mean something greater if the player is also able to contribute to the team’s progress and efforts this season.
