Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with a move for the Club Brugge defender Joel Ordonez, and the Ecuadorian could be sold in the summer.
According to a report from Fichajes, both clubs are interested in the 20-year-old South American, and it will be interesting to see where he ends up. Ordonez is highly rated across Europe, and it is no surprise that top Premier League clubs are keen on him.
He has the attributes to develop into a top-class Premier League defender, and the opportunity to move to Arsenal or Chelsea will be quite attractive for him. Both clubs have done well to groom talented young players over the years, and they could play a key role in his development as well.
He has been linked with clubs like Newcastle United and Aston Villa as well.
Arsenal will be hoping to win league titles and the Champions League. They need a deeper squad with more quality, and the 20-year-old would be a long-term investment for them. Similarly, Chelsea might need to replace players like Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi in the summer. Wesley Fofana’s time at the club has been plagued by injuries as well. Signing a quality central defender will be a priority for them.

It will be interesting to see which of the two clubs manage to get the deal done. The 20-year-old has the quality used to do well in the Premier League as he could develop into a future star for them.
Club Brugge manager Nicky Hayen admitted in December that they “would prefer” to sell the player at the end of the season. He revealed that the South American has been very professional despite the transfer links, and that is certainly a major positive for any club hoping to sign him.
It remains to be seen if either of the two Premier League clubs can negotiate a reasonable deal for him in the summer.
