Aston Villa are gearing up for a big summer in the transfer market, and their first major piece of business is already falling into place.

Unai Emery’s side are flying high, having won five of their last six games. They’re into the quarter-finals of both the Champions League and FA Cup, and they’re firmly in the race for a top-five Premier League finish, potentially enough to secure another season in Europe’s elite competition.

But with big ambitions come big decisions, and Villa’s pursuit of Marcus Rashford could hinge on balancing the books. If they’re serious about signing the Manchester United forward permanently, they’ll need to generate funds through player sales.

With Rashford’s future still up in the air, Villa’s financial strategy in the coming months could prove crucial.

Any move for Rashford would be made a little easier thanks to that sale, but Villa still have a financial puzzle to solve, especially as the Man United forward’s price tag is climbing alongside his return to form.

At 27, the attacker has only featured nine times for Villa since joining on loan, starting just four of those matches. Yet, he’s already made a big impression, racking up four assists and earning a swift recall to the England squad under new manager Thomas Tuchel.

Marcus Rashford price may increase following England call-up

Man United chief scout Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider: “Their asking price has increased after he was recalled into the England squad.

“Villa have benefited from his impressive performances, he’s been allowed to show what he can do, and now Man United can benefit from his sale. They’ve got the best out of a bad situation at United.

“It looked like they’d have to sell him on the cheap, but his value has only gone up.

“With the interest from Villa and from abroad, and a place in the England squad showing how highly rated he is, it will allow them to drive up his asking price.”
