Inter Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu could face a lengthier spell on the sidelines than initially expected after suffering a muscle injury in Riyadh.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, the 30-year-old could stay in the treatment room for up to three weeks.
Calhanoglu sustained a muscle problem in the Supercoppa Italiana final against AC Milan last week.
Despite skipping Inter’s narrow 1-0 win at Venezia, Simone Inzaghi had expected to have him back for Bologna’s visit on Wednesday.
However, the Turkey international will probably stay out of action for at least a fortnight.
A two-week pause is seemingly the best-case scenario.
Indeed, Inter could be without their midfield metronome for the rest of January and then some.
That’s the last thing Inzaghi needs after losing Henrikh Mkhitaryan to injury.
Calhanoglu will not be able to help the Nerazzurri against Bologna tomorrow. But that’s not all.
Inter will face Sparta Prague in a pivotal UEFA Champions League match next week.
Therefore, Calhanoglu’s absence is a problem, especially amid Davide Frattesi’s uncertain future at Giuseppe Meazza.
He should also skip the upcoming Serie A games against Empoli and Lecce but should return for the Derby della Madonnina.
