AC Milan have been quite an opportunist outfit in recent years, and this notion is likely to continue as the club monitors the situation of a Spanish defender.
The past few windows have all been done by focusing on one motto – opportunity. Milan have stayed strict with their financials, instead preferring to use data to their advantage to find undervalued players.
This can also be done in circumstances where the contracts of certain players make a deal easier to negotiate for a buying club. For example, Christian Pulisic’s expiring contract probably played a large part in his €20 million arrival.
In recent months, the Rossoneri have had to focus on deals expiring in the summer of 2026, to give themselves security, and it is a player with that exact contract expiration date that is now being evaluated.
Cristhian Mosquera, the 20-year-old defender from Valencia, is tied down to another year and a half at the club. However, the Spanish outfit are trying to work out a renewal. This is where it gets difficult.
As Hector Gomez, a Valencian journalist, reports, the defender wants a €20m release clause inserted into his deal (coincidentally the golden figure for the Diavolo). If it does not happen, then he will not extend, which opens the club to a massively depreciated price tag.
Milan and Atletico Madrid are eyeing the defender, and both could attempt moves in the summer.
