REVEALED: 49ers Enterprises won’t choose Rangers’ next boss – and Ancelotti isn’t their man either

There’s been a lot of noise lately about 49ers Enterprises and their supposed influence on Rangers’ next managerial appointment—but let’s get this straight once and for all: they’re not involved. The American group, who recently increased their stake in the club, are playing a long game, and while their interest in the bigger picture is real, they will not be the ones deciding who replaces the departed Philippe Clement.
No, that job falls squarely on the shoulders of the current Ibrox board. The same board that made the bold call to axe Clement despite his Scottish Cup run and second-place finish. It’s a risk, no doubt about it—but it’s their risk. And that means any names being pushed forward right now are being driven by our current leadership, not the American investors.
So where does that leave Davide Ancelotti? Well, while Rangers are interested in Ancelotti, and he’s been floated as a serious contender, we’re told he is the board’s preferred candidate. The Italian assistant coach has pedigree and style, sure, but he’s also seen more as an interesting option than just the primary target.
If Ancelotti isn’t purely it, then who is? Marco Rose is gaining traction behind the scenes, a more experienced figure who ticks a lot of boxes for the board—especially in terms of tactical nous and European credibility. Meanwhile, there are whispers that Scott Parker’s name has re-entered the conversation as a more left-field shout.
But crucially, none of this is coming from 49ers Enterprises. Their involvement, while growing, is part of a separate track—investment, infrastructure, and long-term vision. They’ll have their say in time, but not here, not now.
The board is calling the shots, and they’re under pressure to get it right. Fans aren’t in the mood for another project. They want a winner, someone who can galvanise the squad and hit the ground running.
Whatever happens, reports confirm the next few days will be decisive. The choice isn’t just about football—it’s about restoring trust.
Let’s hope the board are finally ready to deliver.
