The recent glitzy display versus Parma and Claudio Ranieri’s words about the future of Paulo Dybala have quieted the chatter about an imminent departure toward Galatasaray, but the attacker and Roma remain in a difficult spot because of his contract, Il Messaggero informed.

The brass already thinks that his wages are too rich. He’ll double them once he clinches an automatic renewal. He’ll make €9M net until 2026, pretty much on par with Lautaro Martinez. Only Dusan Vlahovic earns more in Serie A.

Roma would gladly avoid having to pay that much, also considering that Dybala isn’t reliable from a physical standpoint. On the other hand, they don’t take his departure lightly and don’t want to make it look like they pushed a star exclusively for economic reasons. He’ll soon have a €12M release clause.

At the same time, La Joya isn’t in a rush to depart and doesn’t want to portray such an image either. A multi-year renewal diluting his wages would nip the problem in the bud and make everybody happy. However, there’s no meeting on the horizon to bargain it at this stage.

Our Take on Roma and Dybala

Both positions have merit, but it shouldn’t be forgotten that he took a pay cut when he joined, so he has kind of earned his rise. Still, it was a different management. Who knows whether the execs at the time thought he wouldn’t see out his contract or that they’d be able to renegotiate it at some point. It should happen pronto as the marriage has worked out, but his camp is a tough cookie.
