This afternoon, Davide Calabria’s departure from AC Milan has been confirmed, and it seems a deal will be wrapped up shortly with Bologna.
Calabria’s stocks have fallen massively in the past 18 months. The defender has gone from the undisputed starter at right-back and club captain to another option in the team. As a result, a contract extension seemed heavily unlikely this season.
Emerson Royal and now Kyle Walker will likely compete for the starting shirt, but a report has also suggested that Alex Jimenez will be considered for the position, so whether there will be a search for a replacement remains to be seen, though it looks unlikely.
Things with Bologna have accelerated quite quickly, and the right-back’s move to the Rossoblu has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. In a tweet this afternoon, the journalist states that he is due to leave with ‘immediate effect’ to join the club permanently.
Final details are still being clarified, but the documents to confirm the move should be signed today, if all goes to plan.
Given the speed of the move, it is unlikely the captain will be given an opportunity to ‘properly’ say goodbye, which may leave a sour taste in the mouth for some…
