MacDermid previously was the man in the middle for Celtic’s comprehensive 4-0 victory over St Johnstone in the three-in-a-row Scottish champions final game in the calendar year of 2024. The now fully established SFA referee was the Fourth Official in Celtic’s 3-0 defeat to theRangers at Ibrox last Thursday.

He then took charge of his 11th top-flight fixture of the season on Sunday at Tannadice where Neil Critchley’s Hearts surprisingly defeated Dundee United 1-0.

Ross County’s upturn in form

Meanwhile, Ross County have had an upturn in results over the festive period. Unbeaten in their last four matches, Don Cowie’s side have taken 10 points from a possible 12 taking them to ninth in the table, well clear of the automatic relegation place.

The Staggies had gone 15 months without an away win before their impressive 3-0 victory at Dens Park on Boxing Day. County have now won three on the spin away from home in the league after picking up three points at Pittodrie and then Rugby Park.

Dingwall is never an easy place to visit as theRangers found out last season as their bottles crashed in the title run-in, losing 3-2 at Dingwall before drawing 0-0 at Dens Park, and they are back in the City of Discovery tonight to face the dark blue half of the city.
