Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has made his opinion known on Bruno Fernandes’ transfer links to Real Madrid.

Yesterday, The Peoples Person relayed that Madrid are reportedly willing to fork out £90 million in order to lure the Old Trafford playmaker to the Santiago Bernabéu.

While £90 million is certainly an appealing figure, it appears as if Amorim and the Man United board of directors may have conflicting views of the club captain’s potential transfer.

“Manchester United gaffer Ruben Amorim is keen to keep skipper Bruno Fernandes at Old Trafford, despite rumoured interest from Real Madrid,” the Daily Record reported.

“Despite Amorim’s desire to retain Fernandes, it’s suggested that due to United’s financial situation, they would ‘consider a big offer’,” the report continued.

TEAMtalk went so far as to claim that “Ruben Amorim is understood to have made his feelings clear to the board about the sale of Bruno Fernandes amid claims Real Madrid are willing to shatter the Red Devils’ transfer record to sign the star.”

“Amorim has made it crystal clear to Ratcliffe and his fellow INEOS board members that the sale of the player would be a huge mistake,” the report continued.

Madrid’s interest in recruiting Fernandes comes as no surprise. In addition to being United’s skipper and key playmaker, the Portuguese midfielder has been one of the team’s most crucial players this season.

As a result of his fine form, Fernandes has been nominated for the Premier League March Player of the Month prize.

Fernandes has been United’s top attacker in the Premier League this season, leading both the scoring charts with eight goals and the assist standing with nine assists.

Aside from his finishing, Fernandes has proven clinical in the midfield, with 80% passing and an impressive average of 2.4 key passes per game.

Even when tracking back, the United captain has been highly effective, averaging 2.3 tackles per game and 5.8 ball recoveries. (Stats via Sofascore)

While a £90 million transfer would greatly boost United’s budget, it would be incredibly challenging for the club to find a replacement for Fernandes with the same level of influence and impact, hence why Amorim’s view can certainly be understood.
