Atalanta wing-back Matteo Ruggeri says Gian Piero Gasperini has ‘helped me grow a lot’ and sees similarities with Italy coach Spalletti.
Ruggeri earned his first Italy call-up for games against Germany and held a press conference at Appiano Gentile, Inter’s training ground, where the Azzurri are preparing for the match.
“I’m very happy. I always try to work hard and improve in every training session and every match. I’m really happy, and I thank Coach Spalletti for making one of my dreams come true. I’m truly delighted,” the 22-year-old said via TMW.
“I think that coach Gasperini, at least speaking for myself, helped me grow a lot, first as a person and then as a player,” he continued.

“He pushes you never to settle. I think Spalletti is similar; I don’t know him very well yet, but they seem alike in terms of playing philosophy. That’s a positive thing, having worked with Gasperini. I’ll try to showcase myself and give my all.”
Ruggeri’s Atalanta lost 2-0 to Inter on Sunday.
“Right now, I’m focused on what I must do here. Of course, there’s a bit of regret, but I have to focus on the national team and do what the coach asks of me, giving my best in training and in matches,” Ruggeri concluded.
