A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Real Madrid has on Wednesday come in for widespread criticism online.

This comes owing to the level of his performance in the club’s latest outing.

Real Madrid are of course currently locked in action, in a crunch Champions League Last-16 2nd-leg showdown with city rivals Atlético.

After heading into the matchup in possession of a slender advantage, Los Blancos saw as much disappear within the opening minute at the Metropolitano.

This came owing to a close-range finish on the part of Conor Gallagher.

Chances have since been few and far between for Real Madrid to level things up on the night, save for one massive one, which saw Vinícius Jr. fluff his lines from the penalty spot.

And yet, whilst it was the Brazilian who cost his side so dear, it is another member of Carlo Ancelotti’s squad who has instead been singled out for more widespread condemnation than any other.

The player in question? Ferland Mendy.

Defender Mendy endured something of an evening to forget on Wednesday, struggling badly, particularly when in possession, before ultimately limping off with an injury problem.

And the Blancos faithful have since made crystal clear their feelings with the Frenchman, amid widespread calls for Mendy to be shipped off at the earliest opportunity:
