Serie A refereeing expert Luca Marelli feels Evan Ndicka “took a huge risk” with his holding of Yann Bisseck in today’s clash between Inter Milan and Roma.

The former referee gave his verdict on the incident on Italian broadcaster DAZN after the match, via FCInter1908. He noted that the Ivorian had a hold of his opponent for a long time.

Inter Milan fell to their third straight match against Roma this evening. Moreover, it was the third match in a row in which the Nerazzurri failed to score a goal.

Having conceded in the first half, the Nerazzurri spent much of the second half of the match probing for an opening.

Inter had much of the possession, and had it high up the pitch.

However, Roma packed their penalty area as they protected their advantage.

The Giallorossi were not afraid to get physical inside their own box.

And there was one moment in particular that proved to be a real flashpoint.

Marelli: “Ndicka Took A Big Risk” Keeping Hold Of Bisseck In Inter 0-1 Roma Clash

Late on, Inter crossed the ball into the box, and striker Marko Arnautovic headed the ball back towards the goalline, hoping that a teammate could bundle it across.

It was Inter defender Yann Bisseck who got the wrong side of Roma’s Evan Ndicka.

The German looked to be the favourite to get to the ball. And had he gotten a touch on it, there’s a good chance he would have scored.

However, GIallorossi defender Ndicka looked to be dragging Bisseck back.

The 25-year-old had both arms firmly around the waist of his Inter opposite number.

The Nerazzurri players appealed manically for a penalty, or at least for another look from VAR. However, Fabbri waved these appeals away, not seeing enough in the incident to give a penalty.

And the VAR had a lot at the incident. However, they too did not view the challenge by Ndicka as a foul.

But former Serie A referee Luca Marelli argued that “the holding goes on for a long time.”

“It continues from the edge to the centre of the penalty area. Until the moment the ball gets to near Ndicka and Bisseck.”

Marelli gave the view that Ndicka “took a huge risk.”

“But it’s an evaluation to be made on the pitch,” he then said.
