New Blades owners COH Sports have already demonstrated their intent to bring top-flight football back to Bramall Lane, as they have utilised the current transfer window to secure signings Ben Brereton Diaz, on a loan deal which includes an option to buy from Southampton, and striker Tom Cannon, who joined the South Yorkshire outfit from Leicester City on a permanent transfer worth £10m.

The Blades faithful can also expect to see their club making more acquisitions ahead of deadline day, as manager Chris Wilder previously expressed that he expected his side to make five new signings this month.

On Sunday evening, Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg revealed that the Bramall Lane club are now in advanced talks with Hertha Berlin about a permanent transfer for defender Jonjoe Kenny.

Plettenberg's X post also outlined that the Blades have already agreed personal terms with the former Everton man, who is keen to sign a contract until 2028.

Kenny is out of contract in the summer, so the January transfer window presents Hertha with their final opportunity to cash in on the 27-year-old, while Wilder and co have informed his current club that if there is no sufficient progress on the deal by Wednesday, they will not continue with negotiations, as per the Sheffield Star.

Amid the Blades' interest, Kenny did not feature for his current club during their Bundesliga 2 defeat to league leaders Hamburg on Saturday.

As initially revealed by a Football League World exclusive last week, another defender the Blades are eyeing a move for is QPR man Jimmy Dunne.

Following the R's home defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon, boss Marti Cifuentes provided an update on Dunne's situation: "I don't have anything from the club perspective about it.

"Jimmy, for me, is a very important player, I know that he loves to be at QPR and loves the club, and we love him.

"We'll see what happens, but he is a very important player for us."

Wilder will be particularly keen to land Dunne's services, after fellow centre-half Harry Souttar had to return to parent club Leicester, due to a severe injury.

Hamza Choudhury transfer delay explained

Blades star midfielder Ollie Arblaster suffered a season-ending injury during last November's Steel City Derby victory win over bitter rivals Wednesday.

Consequently, boss Wilder has set his sights on bolstering his options in the middle of the park, and has targeted a move for Leicester man Hamza Choudhury.

The Athletic reported on Saturday that the Bangladesh international was set to join the Blades on loan until the end of the season, but he has still not arrived at Bramall Lane.

Such a delay has subsequently been addressed by the Sheffield Star, who revealed on Monday morning that the Foxes were initially insistent on inserting an obligation to buy in the loan deal, in the event that Wilder's men win promotion.

Wilder was reluctant to agree to those terms, but the Blades have now agreed an option, as opposed to an obligation, to buy Choudhury once his loan comes to an end.
