The Brazilian side have reportedly made a move for Windass, who recently went viral for one of his goals.
Brazilian sleeping giants Santos have submitted an offer for Sheffield Wednesday attacker Josh Windass ahead of their 2025 Serie A season.
This is according to GiveMeSport's Tom Bogert, who revealed the surprise approach on X.
Windass, 30, has been nothing short of outstanding for the Owls this season, scoring and assisting for his side in their quest to compete at the higher end of the Championship table.
He could have left the club back in 2021, following their relegation, but he remained loyal to the cause and came up with the winning goal in the 2023 League One play-off final against Barnsley to launch Wednesday back into the second tier of English football.
It's fair to say that injuries have been a bit of an issue for the versatile attacker at times, but he has still been able to come up with the goods, and is continuing to perform well this season.
Windass signed a new contract back in the summer at Hillsborough, with his previous deal set to expire last year, but it's currently unclear how long his renewed contract lasts for.
And regardless of this, it seems as though one team is keen to get a cash deal over the line for the forward during the winter window.
Bogert has reported that Santos - who have been promoted back to Brazil's top flight ahead of the 2025 season - have gone ahead and made an offer for 30-year-old Windass.
The size of this bid is currently unclear and it remains to be seen whether it's accepted by the Owls, who will surely be keen not to lose him, especially after seeing him score a sensational goal against Derby County recently.
It's not the first time that Windass has held interest from South America, and perhaps not coincidentally it is former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha who is once more looking to re-unite with him.
Caixinha's brief time at Ibrox saw him manage Windass for a few months, and now in charge of Santos, he wants to sign him after inheriting him in Scotland - just like he tried to when at Club Atletico Talleres in Argentina in 2022.
MLS teams had also taken an interest in the player in the past and Windass remains on clubs' radars, but Wednesday don't have to sanction a January exit and currently hold the cards this January, depending on his contract length.
The Owls will surely be keen to retain someone of Windass' calibre.
Considering he's 30, his financial value may start to decrease in the next couple of years.
But he's arguably still in the peak years of his career and Danny Rohl could potentially be persuaded to stay at the club for quite a while if Dejphon Chanisiri shows ambition and retains the attacker.
Windass has been extremely important this season and considering he was seemingly hesitant to sign a new deal in the summer, it will be interesting to see what unfolds during this window.
