Second-half goals from Marko Arnautovic and Hakan Calhanoglu inspired Inter to a clear-cut 2-0 win against Lazio.

As such, the Nerazzurri will trade tackles with fierce rivals AC Milan for the fourth time this season.

However, Simone Inzaghi has a more pressing matter to address. Indeed, his team will meet Napoli in a decisive Serie A away game this weekend.

Unfortunately, Matteo Darmian may not be at his disposal after coming off in the first half this evening. Denzel Dumfries took his place in the 24th minute.

Furthermore, Marcus Thuram, Yann Sommer, Carlos Augusto, and Nicola Zalewski didn’t even make the squad. Due to injury.

“We risked falling behind, but we broke the deadlock with Arnautovic’s great goal.

“Then, in the second half, we had to change formation out of necessity.

“But I have an incredible group of players, and I’m proud to be their coach.”

Inter will meet Milan again in the Coppa Italia semi-finals, hoping to avenge a Supercoppa Italiana heartbreak.

“We’ll think about them later; we take things one match at a time,” Inzaghi stated.

“We know we’re struggling on the flanks, especially with Carlos Augusto out. Right now, we’re focused on Saturday’s game.”

Meanwhile, he explained the current fitness status of two first-team strugglers.

“I got a lot of important responses from the team. Several players weren’t at their best, but they still stepped up.

“Frattesi and Taremi both had serious issues and played through painkillers, but they never hesitated.”

Simone Inzaghi Praises Marko Arnautovic & Josep Martinez

Josep Martinez was in goal again, as Sommer is yet to recover from thumb surgery.

“He’s a great goalkeeper. The club presented him to me along with three other options.

“He had a fantastic season with Genoa. Right now, he has Sommer ahead of him, who’s having an excellent campaign.

“I’ve considered giving him his debut multiple times, but without rushing, because I knew he’d do well.

“He’s a serious professional, has integrated well, and works hard every week.”

On the other hand, he hailed Arnautovic’s goal.

“This morning, we worked on set pieces. If Lazio had kept their players high, he would have needed to step up and mark them.

“And that’s exactly what he did. We know his shooting ability, and we positioned him accordingly.”
