Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi wants to get midfielder Davide Frattesi on the same path as Federico Dimarco, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Lautaro Martinez.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews.
Frattesi has found himself in Inter’s first-choice starting eleven. Temporarily.
The reason for this is an injury to teammate Nicolo Barella.
Barella is currently out with a thigh injury. Therefore, Frattesi started against Udinese over the weekend, impressing with his performance.
Meanwhile, it is likely that Frattesi will start tomorrow against Red Star Belgrade and next Saturday against Torino.
These are big opportunities for Frattesi.
Last season, the Italian international was rarely in the Inter starting eleven.
Frattesi’s performance against Udinese on Saturday gave the impression that he is ready to take on more responsibility.
But there is still a long way for the 25-year-old to go.
However, there are players who have been in Frattesi’s shoes at Inter.
Wingback Dimarco returned to Inter in the summer of 2022 after a number of loan spells away.
Dimarco did get his chances. But he was very much a backup to Ivan Perisic and Alessandro Bastoni.
That remained the case for all of Dimarco’s first season back at Inter.
But in each of the last three seasons, the 26-year-old has grown into the team. Now, he is one of the Nerazzurri’s key starters.
The same is true of Hakan Calhanoglu.
The Turkish international didn’t find his best role or his ideal form right away after joining from AC Milan.
But every season that Calhanoglu has been at Inter has seen him become more irreplaceable.
Most prominently of all, Inter captain Lautaro Martinez has had to work his way up to where he is now.
And Inzaghi wants Frattesi on a similar trajectory.
