During the week, claims spread online that Alexander Isak had joined the injury list at Newcastle United.

With Lewis Hall and Anthony Gordon having joined Jamaal Lascelles as players who would be missing the Carabao Cup Final, as well as West Ham away on Monday, not the kind of rumours/claims that any Newcastle United fan wanted to hear.

As always, difficult to tell when these rumours spread online.

Both in terms of how much truth there is in them and who exactly started the rumours.

Now on Friday morning, we have had the definitive answer on Alexander Isak.

Ahead of both West Ham on Monday night AND Liverpool at Wembley six days later.

‘Eddie Howe confirms Alexander Isak is FIT and raring to go!

The Newcastle United boss says the top-scorer has trained all week and in the squad for West Ham.’

Eddie Howe also had this to say on Sven Botman and Lewis Hall on Friday morning:

Eddie Howe on Sven Botman

“Sven, we have been trying to get him back to full fitness, he was very close to the Brighton game but the day before he felt something again in his knee. This week he has had the same discomfort so it looks like he will have to have an operation.

He needs a small operation to clear out some fluid and then he should be fine again. We hope he should be back in about eight weeks.”

(***Fair to say I think that this is very much a good news/bad news update. A media exclusive had already revealed that Sven Botman would have surgery BUT great to hear this isn’t on the scale of his ACL issue on the other knee, with hopes instead of a return to playing this season in May)

Eddie Howe on Lewis Hall:

“Really disappointed for Lewis, we are devastated for him, he had so much to look forward to. He had the cup final and then internationals coming up, he was in really good form. It is a big blow for him and for us.”

As for Jamaal Lascelles, Eddie Howe revealed ahead of the Forest match that the defender was out on the grass working with the physios. However, it will be towards the end of the season before he could potentially return to action.

So for the West Ham match (and Liverpool cup final…), Newcastle United definitely without Hall, Gordon, Lascelles and Botman.
