AC Milan signed Santiago Gimenez in the January mercato and after his first goal for the club at the weekend, his second start was not as fruitful.

Gimenez arrived from Feyenoord at the end of the January mercato after the announcement that Milan would play the Dutch outfit in the Champions League, setting up a possible dream return for the Mexican.

However, it did not go this way. The striker, and the rest of the Fantastic Four for that matter, all struggled in the Netherlands – which has led to suggestions that the system could be tabled already – with Feyenoord now heading to San Siro with a 1-0 advantage.

Throughout the game, his former teammate David Hancko wound him up (with the defender proudly admitting this after the game), and Gijs Smal spoke about his outlook on the game and his former teammate after the game and Milan Press relayed his words.

“We started well, with many transitions, finding the free partner. We are happy, of course. We won today, but we haven’t done anything yet. It was a good night for all the Feyenoord fans, but we have a duty to do the same in San Siro.

“Gimenez opponent? He is strange. I worked seven months with him, every day. Then you see the news and goodbye: he’s gone. It was special playing against him. Outside I spoke to him a little bit, I asked him how things were going.

“He was not very happy today, hopefully we can hurt him again next week. We know what he can do on the pitch and we will have to stop him.”
