Southampton have decided to find a potential loan suitor for young goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu.
Looking at the squad, Southampton's goalkeeping department seems decent from the outside. After all, having an England international like Aaron Ramsdale is a dream for most Premier League clubs.
Further, the Saints have three more understudies to Ramsdale in their roster. Still, one transfer move could ruin Southampton's core altogether.
Unsurprisingly, that's a potential Aaron Ramsdale departure. The 26-year-old is being courted by a host of Premier League clubs regarding a move.
One of them is Saturday's opponents Newcastle United. The Magpies are one of the heavy spenders in transfers, thus, meeting Southampton's demand wouldn't be difficult for them.
Further, their sporting project is much more ambitious than the Saints, in all honesty. Thus, Ramsdale wouldn't show much resistance if Newcastle came up with an offer, either now or in the summer.
Hence, Southampton must prepare for life without Ramsdale. Positively, the Saints have also turned their attention to this matter.
Recently, boss Ivan Juric gave an optimistic reply about Gavin Bazunu's future. As quoted by the Daily Echo, Juric said: "I think that the idea of the club is to give him a loan after his injury."
I know, Bazunu isn't Ramsdale level quite yet. But, for that, he needs to be playing senior football regularly at the age of 22.
Throughout his Southampton career, injuries have been a stumbling block in Bazunu's development. As a result, he has been playing with the U21 team since recovering a few weeks ago.
Some might say, that the Newcastle United game could be a perfect opportunity for Gavin Bazunu. One, he must grab with both hands due to Aaron Ramsdale's possible absence.
Still, one match isn't enough for Bazunu to reach his peak levels. A change of scenery for the rest of the season could bring back his form and confidence.
Hence, a loan move now would benefit both Southampton and Bazunu. Rest, let's see what happens in the transfer window.
