Southampton are among the clubs eyeing a deal for Oxford United’s Tyler Goodrham this summer.

It was exclusively revealed by FLW that the Saints face competition from Middlesbrough and Coventry City for the 21-year-old in the upcoming transfer market.

Goodrham came through the U’s academy system, and has established himself as one of the most exciting prospects in the Championship.

The versatile midfielder contributed three goals and six assists for the team this season as they finished 17th in the table in their first year back in the division.

Capable of playing either out wide or in attacking midfield, Goodrham has earned rave reviews at the Kassam Stadium and it would be no surprise to see him join a team likely to compete for promotion next term.

Southampton urged to sign Oxford United's Tyler Goodrham

When asked about the club signing Goodrham, FLW’s Southampton fan pundit Martin Sanders claimed he would fit the bill of the type of signing the club should be making.

He highlighted the youngster’s versatility as a potentially key asset, claiming this is the kind of deal the team needs this summer.

“Versatile midfielder, he’s young, he fits the bill doesn’t he, at Southampton? This is the sort of business that Southampton will look to do to bring in somebody young that’s up-and-coming, that’s a talent," Sanders told FLW.

“That’s very much what we do.

“I’ve heard some good reports about him at Oxford.

“He can operate across the midfield, which is something Southampton need, they need versatile players and they need people who can play out wide, certainly on the right.

“I think he would be a really, really good fit, one of the best players in the Championship by all accounts.”

Southampton will be aiming to fight for promotion next season having suffered relegation from the Premier League this campaign.

Goodrham signing makes sense for Southampton

Southampton have been a great place for young players to go and thrive in recent years, with Tyler Dibling this season proving the latest to prove that.

Goodrham enjoyed a strong first campaign in the Championship, and it’s no surprise that he’s gained admirers across the division.

The Saints are an exciting potential prospect given their ambition to fight for promotion to the Premier League.

However, with no manager yet in place it’s difficult to know whether he’d fit in as a key part of the squad just yet.
