The transfer window has only just closed, but Chelsea’s anaemic recent performances are forcing fans to return to the idea of attacking signings as a light at the end of the tunnel for their endless suffering.

A tepid showing against Brighton on Saturday was without strikers Nicolas Jackson and Marc Guiu thanks to injury, but the wide players offered nothing to compensate. Noni Madueke, Pedro Neto and Jadon Sancho have all had their moments this season, but as the games slip by their contributions are becoming less and less impressive when you look at the average of the whole campaign.

The promise of a lightning quick wide man is just what fans need to get them onside, so it’s no wonder to see links to “Swedish Messi” Roony Bardghji brought up this morning by Jamie Brown of TBR Football.

The speedster has been out since the summer with an ACL injury, but he’s back in training now and there will be a lot of teams paying a lot of attention to him between now and the summer. Manchester United and Tottenham are mentioned, for starters. If he recovers the form he showed last season, expect someone to make a move.

Unusual contract situation makes cheap summer deal possible

The 18 year old’s contract expires in a year’s time – because he plays for FC Copenhagen in Denmark, where the season ends in December. That means this summer he will be able to sign a pre contract deal with a new team – although almost certainly a team will just pay a smaller fee to get him at that point, rather than risk waiting 6 months to get him mid-season.

All eyes will be on Bardghji for the next few months as he gets up to speed following his injury. We’ve been linked since 2021, so expect us to be seriously interested.
