Ange Postecoglou says Dejan Kulusevski will be out for “a few months” with the knee injury he suffered against Crystal Palace.

The Swedish attacker has undergone surgery on his right patella and will miss the Europa League final against Manchester United next week.

“Disappointing news,” Postecoglou said on Kulusevski’s injury.

“Initially we kind of thought it wasn’t too serious. The medical team were worried about structurally how the knee was but it seemed good. It kind of blew up the day after and we knew there was an issue there.

“He’s had surgery and it will put him out for at least a few months.”

On whether he will be back for the start of next season, Postecoglou said: “We’ll see. I only have basic information at the moment in terms of recovery, but it will certainly put him out for a while.”

Postecoglou also ruled out a sooner than expected return for midfielder Lucas Bergvall, who is out with an ankle injury and will also miss the final.

“It’s still the same sort of timeframe,” he said.

“It was never long term but he’s just got out of his boot and taking his first steps on the grass but he’ll likely be a while.”

Bergvall and Kulusevski are also joined on the sidelines by James Maddison, who will miss the rest of this season with a knee injury.

But Postecoglou says Heung-min Son will again play when Spurs take on Aston Villa on Friday, ahead of the Europa League final next Wednesday.

The forward missed several weeks with a foot injury but returned to the team against Palace.

“He’ll definitely play,” the Spurs boss said. “Whether he’ll start or not we’ll see. “He reacted well to Sunday and it makes sense to get him more match minutes whether it’s starting or playing half of the game.”
