Check out the key facts and figures from the UEFA Champions League last 16 first leg clash with Liverpool.

A CRUEL DEFEAT

The world saw it happen. Paris Saint-Germain suffered a cruel defeat against Liverpool, despite Les Rouge et Bleus' clear dominance, which was reflected in the incredible stats from the match. Twenty-seven shots to two and 10 on target compared to just one for the Reds. On top of that, 72% possession, relentless pressing and counter-pressing, chances, and miracles.

And it wasn't so much a lack of cutting edge as it was the fact that the Reds' goalkeeper equalled his record for saves in a Champions League match, while also setting a record for a Liverpool goalkeeper in the competition since 2003-04. A statistic that says it all.

REASONS FOR HOPE

It was difficult to find anything to criticise the Parisians for on Wednesday evening. As Luis Enrique himself said, football can be very cruel, and you have to accept that. But the Parisians' ambition next week will be to win at Anfield, even though Paris also won at the Parc. The Parisians will be able to draw on their sparkling away form, and from what everyone saw on Wednesday night, victory in England is possible for our Les Rouge et Bleu.

Even Liverpool boss Arne Slot confirmed as much in his post-match press conference. If it had been a draw, he would have considered himself very lucky. It is obviously difficult to argue with his words; Paris would have deserved the win.

MAKE HISTORY

In less than a week, Luis Enrique's players will have the opportunity to make history at Anfield Road. Qualification will inevitably depend on a win on Merseysidew, which would be a first for Paris, who have returned from Liverpool empty-handed both times they have travelled there.

Only three of the 27 teams that have lost 1-0 at home in the first leg of a Champions League knockout tie have gone on to qualify for the next round. Which leaves all of us, the players, the staff, the fans in attendance and all those supporting Paris Saint-Germain from afar, to pull together and write what may be one of the finest chapters in the club's history.
