The Premier League title race appears destined to underwhelm as Liverpool saunter to the crown but there is currently an intriguing three-horse race developing in La Liga.
Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid are the trio that contest top spot each year and all three harbour genuine hopes of domestic glory this season in a battle of fine margins.
Victories for Barcelona and Atletico this weekend have piled the pressure on the reigning champions after they stumbled to a 2-1 defeat against Real Betis on Saturday, which has left them three points off top spot.

Barcelona jumped back into first place on Sunday following their cruise-control victory over ten-man Real Sociedad, moving a single point ahead of Atletico and three in front of their Clasico rivals. Their odds of claiming the title have shot up as a result, with Opta suggesting they have a 47.76% chance of stealing Madrid's crown. They are currently on 57 points and are expected to earn another 26 before the season is out.
Atletico leapfrogged their city rivals on Saturday with their narrow victory at home to fourth-placed Athletic Club, Julian Alvarez continuing his fine form by producing the winner in the second half. Diego Simeone's side, who have only lost twice in the league this term and boast the best defensive record, are now considered second favourites for the title.
Atletico are given a 26.98% chance of winning the league, marginally higher than the odds given to their foes Real Madrid (25.22%). The defending champions suffered a disappointing defeat to Real Betis at the weekend as former Los Blancos star Isco netted the winner. They have now won just one of their last five league games and have fallen to third.
Of course, Atletico and Madrid lock horns in the Champions League last 16, which could well force them to take their eye off La Liga over the next two weeks. Los Rojiblancos also face Barcelona in the league and cup either side of the March international break.
Technically, Athletic Club and Villarreal are considered potential title winners. Both are given less than a 0.1% chance of producing the mightiest of shocks, however, with the latter perhaps improving their odds ever so slightly on Monday evening should they beat Espanyol.
