The Gunners are one of several clubs keen on signing Nypan, who is regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in Europe.

The midfielder made his debut for Rosenborg aged just 15 and has been tracked by top European sides ever since.

Arsenal are one of those clubs keen on the 18-year-old, who could be on the move before the end of this month and has also been linked with Manchester City and Manchester United.

Nypan, however, has been named in Rosenborg’s squad for a training camp in Portugal that begins on Saturday.

It will run until February 11 and is taking place at the Campo de Futebol Ria Park, which is just outside the Portuguese city of Faro.

Nypan was spotted at Oslo Airport on Friday and told Norwegian news outlet VG: “I’m going to training camp. I have my bag here.”

Rosenborg are playing in the Atlantic Cup during their time in Portugal. Three matches are planned on January 30, February 7 and February 10, all to be played at the Estadio Algarve.

Arsenal still want to bolster their squad before the transfer deadline and manager Mikel Arteta stressed on Friday afternoon the need for reinforcements.

“If we can get the right player, that’s why we are actively looking at it,” he said. “Any player, no. Someone that makes us better and has an impact on the team.

“It is clear that in the period that we lost them [Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Jesus to injury], ideally we need some help. We were short already and now we are even shorter. The team still copes with that. We have to do what is right for the club.

“That’s an option. It doesn’t just depend on Arsenal, on Mikel or our will. It depends on the market and a lot of different factors.”

Arsenal may prove an attractive next destination for Nypan given that they are captained by fellow Norwegian Martin Odegaard.

Arteta has also shown a willingness to blood young players this season, namely Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
