Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has made it clear he has the ambition to play for one of Europe’s biggest clubs at some point in the next few years amid links with Manchester United.

The Red Devils are looking at Gyokeres as one of a number of options in attack at the moment as they look set to part ways with big-name forward Marcus Rashford.

It’s been a disappointing season so far for Rashford, while last term was also well below what the England international is capable of, so it’s perhaps not too surprising that Man Utd are planning to make changes in attack.

Gyokeres has been in unstoppable goal-scoring form for Sporting since he joined, so the Sweden international certainly looks like the kind of exciting signing United need up front.

With a record of 70 goals in 75 games in all competitions for Sporting, it seems clear that Gyokeres is too good for the Portuguese league, so it would surely make sense for him to try a new challenge.

Although the 26-year-old doesn’t seem in a hurry to move right now, he’s surely hinted at a possible future move to someone like United by admitting he has a big move in his mind as one of his career objectives.

“We will see. There are many rumours circulating, but we are in the middle of the season and there are still many months left,” Gyokeres said, as quoted by the Metro.

“We will see when the time comes what will happen.”

When asked about where he’d like to be at the age of 30, Gyokeres said: “Playing for one of the best teams in Europe. That is the objective.”

Gyokeres will surely have plenty of suitors if he leaves Sporting in the near future, but Ruben Amorim’s presence at Old Trafford should surely give them some advantage.

Amorim only recently left Sporting for United, and Gyokeres could do well to link up with his former manager again after they worked so well together before.
