Chelsea have joined the race to sign Brighton striker Evan Ferguson before Monday’s deadline day according to The Guardian.

The January window is now into the last few days, and this is usually the point where things start to heat up in regards to transfers.

Chelsea haven’t been as busy as expected, but the Blues are still looking to move a number of players on and bring one or two new faces in before deadline day.

Chelsea join the race for Ferguson

It’s no secret Chelsea are looking to add an attacker, and they’ve been dealt a blow with the news that Mathys Tel has decided to stay at Bayern Munich.

Enzo Maresca’s side have been linked with a move for Liam Delap, although a move for the Ipswich striker is seen as more likely in the summer.

Chelsea are desperate for an alternative to Nicolas Jackson, who despite scoring nine goals this season, hasn’t found the back of the net in his last seven matches.

Maresca has backed Jackson to start finding the back of the net again, but the lack of an alternative option is having a detrimental effect on the team.

Christopher Nkunku isn’t a number nine and has struggled in the league and is attracting interest from Bayern, whilst Maresca doesn’t feel Marc Guiu is ready for regular league minutes.

However, a striker could still arrive in this window and The Guardian have reported the Blues have joined the race for Ferguson.

The report states that Brighton are willing to loan or sell the 20-year-old, who is thought to be valued at £40m, but there’s also interest from multiple Premier League clubs including Tottenham, West Ham and Bournemouth.

Ferguson has scored just once in the league this season, but is a highly regarded talent and has shown previously he has what it takes to be a success in the Premier League.

A loan move at this late stage would make sense given Chelsea are desperate for another striker, but any permanency to the move wouldn’t, as the Blues would rule themselves out of signing a striker in the summer.
