Premier League teams and measuring success.
How do we gauge it?
Which Premier League teams are outperforming their rivals this season?
For Newcastle United and the rest, it surely comes down to what it always does.
How many matches you win.
So I have had a look at all 20 Premier League clubs this season…
We are now seven months into the 2024/25 season, this is how many matches each Premier League team has won (and lost), in Premier League AND domestic cup competitions (as of the morning of Monday 10 March 2025):
26 and 3 Liverpool
21 and 10 Newcastle United
18 and 8 Forest
18 and 10 Man City
17 and 7 Brighton
16 and 9 Villa
16 and 9 Chelsea
16 and 10 Palace
15 and 9 Fulham
15 and 9 Bournemouth
15 and 16 Tottenham
14 and 14 Brentford
13 and 14 Man U
10 and 14 West Ham
9 and 11 Everton
9 and 19 Wolves
7 and 21 Leicester
6 and 25 Southampton
5 and 18 Ipswich
The way some Newcastle United fans are going on as well, you would think this season has been a disaster.
The reality is that only Liverpool have won more domestic matches this season than Eddie Howe’s side.
Indeed, United have won three more matches than the next trio of Arsenal, Forest and Man City. Brighton four less than NUFC and the rest winning at least five less than Newcastle.
Also worth noting that whilst Newcastle have had a tough recent match schedule against teams towards the top end, tonight they face a West Ham team who are fifth bottom of the Premier League and who have won less than half (10) of the 21 domestic matches Newcastle have done this season.
Doesn’t mean that it is a guaranteed victory, as we know from the reverse fixture at St James’ Park. However, if Newcastle play to anything like the levels they have played at for much of this season, they can for sure be capable of getting the away victory.
