There are a lot of players at FC Barcelona who would wish to have more playing time than they currently do. In most such cases, it is understandable why those players are not featuring more often than they currently are. However, in other cases, the limited minutes that certain Barcelona players get are much more difficult to fully comprehend.
One such player is €55m-rated Uruguayan defender Ronald Araujo, who has had a very limited influence on the team this season. At first, he got injured during the Copa America in the summer and it resulted in him missing the entirety of the first half of the season as he recovered from said injury.
However, even after fully recovering, the player has had very limited game time. It was only in the recent Copa del Rey match against UD Barbastro that he finally earned a start, delivering a solid performance to his credit. Since then, he missed the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Athletic Club—a game that Barcelona managed to win without him.
Now, however, a recent report from SPORT suggests that the upcoming final of that competition will dictate what happens in Araujo’s near future. With a lot of clubs interested in his services, the match against Real Madrid and Araujo’s involvement in it could reveal a lot.
Reportedly, the player is already frustrated with his lack of playing time, and another similar story against Real Madrid in the Spanish Super Cup final could be the last nail in the coffin. It could possibly even end up accelerating his departure to another club.
Having been used regularly by Xavi Hernandez as a deterrent of sorts to stop Vinicius Jr whenever it came to El Clasico, this match could end up being quite telling if that role of his is removed as well. While the final decision lies with Hansi Flick, there is a good enough precedent for the €55 million-rated defender to make a case for himself.
Currently, Serie A side Juventus is reportedly quite interested in the player and even sees him as their main target. However, Barcelona do not see the offer from Juventus to be adequate just yet and the Catalan club wants to earn a significant fee from his departure.
That is why the club would much rather entertain offers from the English Premier League. Known for being big spenders, the clubs from England could possibly provide the kind of offer that Barcelona would be content with in exchange for the services of Ronald Araujo.
