There has been a clear change in the playing style of this FC Barcelona team since the arrival of Hansi Flick on the Blaugrana bench, and this change has already been recognized by several commentators.
With the performances they are putting on the pitch, the Catalans are emerging as the favorites to win the biggest titles in Spain and Europe.
However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, the former Barcelona Sporting Director, Robert Fernandez, appeared in an interview and highlighted that while Flick has already proven himself, he still has to take one last step to truly succeed at the Blaugrana club.
For now, Fernandez ensured that he was quite impressed with Flick’s performance:
“I see him very, very well… He arrived without making much noise. It’s true that he came from Bayern and was already known. There, he already gave the impression of being a bold and modern coach.”
However, he highlighted the two aspects in which any Barcelona coach needs to succeed, and he believed Flick has done only one-half of the job for now:
“Now, what we have to hope for is that he becomes a champion. In Barcelona, there are two principles: one is playing well—because if you don’t play well, they won’t forgive you—and the other is winning titles.”
“He’s fulfilling the first one because I love watching his team play, with many young players, local talent, and that helps strengthen the club. Now, Flick has the challenge of winning trophies.”
The former Blaugrana official who had to suffer a heart attack a few years ago also highlighted how Flick had a difficult task awaiting him at Barcelona:
“Being Barcelona’s coach is not easy. Barcelona has a very clear style of play, and you can’t deviate from it. On top of that, he came in after Xavi’s tenure, which didn’t go well in his final year. So he had to make people forget that season, bring the team back to the top… and today, watching Barcelona is a delight.”
There is no doubt that Flick’s work up to now has been rather phenomenal, and the Catalan team is on track to reaching the numbers of some of the best teams in Barcelona’s history. Hopefully, he will be able to close the season with some trophies, and etch his name among the most successful coaches in the Blaugrana club’s history.
