Crystal Palace head coach Laura Kaminski says that her side must keep their feet firmly on the ground despite their bright start to life in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

The Eagles have taken five points from their opening seven league matches, a solid points return for a newly-promoted side.

With almost a third of the season gone, Crystal Palace have a solid base to build upon in the top flight but head coach Kaminski says that her side have to remain grounded.

“We mustn’t get carried away in terms of where we’ve come from and where we are at,” Kaminski said when speaking in a Crystal Palace press conference. “We know this is early days for us. Whereas some teams have been in the WSL for seven seasons, we’ve been in it for seven games.

“We need to keep our feet on the ground, remember where we are at and work hard every week. I never want to calculate the amount of points per game because there are no guarantees when we are playing teams in and around the bottom half of the table.”

Crystal Palace’s latest opponents Aston Villa recorded a goalless draw at Manchester United last time out. While The Villans will have newfound confidence, Kaminski knows that her side are more than capable of competing in the game.

She said “They put in a positive performance against Manchester United and pulled them apart at the back a little bit as well which was interesting to see in terms of their front-line and the tactical application that they had going on. Maybe their position in the table is a little bit false in terms of some of the patches of their performance.

“For me, there’s no better time to play them. They’ll be full of confidence for sure but at the same time, we are causing teams problems. We’ve got to be able to account for their threats but make sure we back ourselves as well because we are causing teams problems.”

Four of Crystal Palace’s five points this season have come on the road and Kaminski has been impressed with her side’s adaptability in different surroundings.

She said “I was talking about home form at the start of the season but a lot of our points have come from away games. It just proves that on the day, the squad can perform no matter where they’re at. We have just got to adapt to our surroundings, take care of our game plan and make sure that we perform as individuals and as a team on the day.”

Crystal Palace’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Aston Villa kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
