Manchester City face two crucial fixtures at the Etihad this week beginning today against Chelsea. Looking at today’s game there is a case to start Omar Marmoush in place of Kevin De Bruyne. With Marmoush unable to play against Club Brugge in the Champions League and De Bruyne having already played two games this week, there is certainly merit to the idea.
Against PSG Kevin De Bruyne did all he could against PSG’s younger midfield brigade. But what stood out was De Bruyne’s legs aren’t what used to be. But we already knew that. You do get the impression that playing three games in a week is just a step too far for the Manchester City legend. With Omar Marmoush now officially a Manchester City player he could start today and give De Bruyne a rest ahead of City’s crucial Champions League fixture against Club Brugge.
Omar Marmoush can play in a variety of roles up front. He can play as a striker, on a wing, or just behind a frontman. There is merit to the idea of playing Marmoush just behind Haaland today in a similar type of role that De Bruyne currently plays. Marmoush isn’t the same type of player but he can score goals and create them. He also has pace and the ability to lead City’s defensive press. Based on the strengths of his game and the fact that De Bruyne could do with a rest Pep Guardiola should unleash City’s most recent signing against Chelsea today.
Today could be the ideal setting for Pep Guardiola to unleash Omar Marmoush. Especially given that the Egyptian international can play in a role that City have lacked cover for outside of De Bruyne. It remains to be seen if Pep Guardiola does start Marmoush but if he does it may give his team a lift for today’s crucial Premier League fixture at the Etihad.
