Julien Laurens, a well-known and respected journalist in French football circles, has firmly dismissed the rumours linking Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk with Paris Saint-Germain. Laurens, who has a close rapport with PSG officials and is considered a trusted voice when it comes to the French club, took to X (formerly Twitter) to quash the speculations surrounding the Dutch defender’s future.
The speculation surrounding Van Dijk and PSG had intensified following a post-match exchange between the Liverpool captain and PSG’s top brass in the Anfield tunnel after the second leg of their Champions League clash earlier this month. The tense nature of the match, coupled with Van Dijk’s contract situation at Liverpool, fuelled wild rumours about a potential move to the French capital.
Laurens was quick to dismiss the growing chatter. In a succinct message on X, he stated, “There is nothing between PSG and Virgil Van Dijk. No talks, no negotiations, no 100m signing on fee offer. Nothing.” His clarification comes as a relief to many Liverpool supporters who were alarmed by the reports linking their talismanic captain with a move to one of Europe’s most powerful clubs.
It was suggested that Van Dijk’s conversation with PSG’s sporting director, Luis Campos, and club president Nasser Al Khelaifi, had been misinterpreted as an indication of transfer discussions. Laurens, however, confirmed that the discussion was entirely about the two Champions League matches the clubs had just contested, with no mention of Van Dijk’s future.
Further reports had suggested that Van Dijk also used the opportunity to apologise for comments made during the first leg in Paris, where he had exchanged words with Campos. Laurens confirmed that this was indeed the case, with Van Dijk expressing regret over the exchange, which was reportedly well-received by the PSG hierarchy.
This conversation, while certainly noteworthy, does not indicate any looming transfer move. Rather, it highlights the professionalism of Van Dijk, who appears to have patched up any potential tensions with PSG officials following their previous meeting.

While the Van Dijk-to-PSG rumours can now be put to rest, the focus at Liverpool shifts back to the more pressing issue of his contract. Following Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final, Van Dijk hinted that there could be positive contract news by the end of the season. However, with no official confirmation yet, the uncertainty surrounding his future at Anfield remains a topic of discussion.
For now, however, fans can rest easy knowing that there are no concrete plans for the Dutch international to leave Liverpool in favour of PSG. Van Dijk, for his part, remains focused on his duties at Anfield, with talks likely to continue behind the scenes as Liverpool look to secure their captain’s long-term future.
