Inter liked what they saw from Oumar Solet in the recent meeting with Udinese. The Frenchman has jumped to the top of their shortlist to address their defense. He has surpassed especially Jaka Bijol, who wasn’t great in the past round, Corriere dello Sport relays (via Tuttomercatoweb).

The Frenchman’s stellar turn at Udinese quashed the reservations that had led to his release from RB Leipzig, after which he spent a number of months without a team. Several clubs had eyed him in the past. They had doubts regarding his fitness, and he had behavioral issues in the past.

Solet hasn’t had any of those since moving to Italy, as he has featured and shone in every match, drawing the attention in particular of Inter and Napoli. The main concern for the Nerazzurri is tactical. They are looking for somebody who could play in the central role of their backline, while the Udinese star has been used as a ‘braccetto.’

Still, he has experience also in a four-man defense and can still be molded. The Bianconeri will want to monetize as much as possible to let him go after less than a season. However, he’s still less expensive than a few other candidates since his price tag is about €20M.

Our Take on Inter and Solet

While he didn’t come from nowhere, the other question mark is the sample size, as he has been in Serie A for only a few months. His spell has been bright but brief, and the risk of a flash in the pan is always just around the corner with players from the minnows. He can adapt to the ‘anchor’ role, but it’d be limiting given his athletic prowess.
