Inter are casting a wide net to find a new defender, and their emissaries were recently spotted at the Penzo stadium in Venezia to scout Jay Idzes in the Napoli game. The 24-year-old will stay in the top flight even if his team get relegated, Calciomercato informs.
He moved to the Arancioneroverdi on a free transfer in 2023 after departing Go Ahead Eagles. His price tag is burgeoning but will hinge on his side’s faith. The PSV product initially got his start at FC Eindhoven. He has accumulated 58 appearances and 5 goals with his present club. The two managements have arranged more than a few deals lately, for instance, the ones involving Filip Stankovic, Gaetano Pio Oristanio, and Andrei Radu.
Agent Bilal Achenteh, who represents Idzes, stated that there have been some contacts with Inter and Atalanta.
“We have been in touch, but not only with them.”
The center-back, who has also played on the flanks and as a holding midfielder in the past, will be a full ‘plusvalenza’ for Venezia. He has racked up nine caps with Indonesia, which he captains.
He can grow, but he’s not at the level to succeed either Stefan De Vrij or Francesco Acerbi as the linchpin of the rearguard. He could perhaps deputize the former, who has more good years in him, if the brass opted to keep him. But it feels like they’ll splurge a little for a very good player there. Given his traits, he could also serve as Benjamin Pavard should they cash in on Yann Aurel Bisseck to fill their coffers.
