Villarreal star still absent from training ahead of Real Madrid | OneFootball

A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga outfit Villarreal was forced to sit out training once more on Tuesday.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Kiko Femenía as the player in question.

Kiko, for his part, missed each of Villarreal’s last two fixtures, owing to an ongoing back issue.

The hope was that the 34-year-old would mark his return to training early this week, with a view to potentially playing his part against Real Madrid this weekend.

As alluded to above, though, on Tuesday, Kiko remained nowhere to be seen.

As per a report from MD:

‘Villarreal CF began preparing for this weekend’s match against Real Madrid on Tuesday, in a first session in which full-back Kiko Femenía was still absent.’

The former Watford man now faces a race against time to be fit to feature on Saturday.

Elsewhere in Marcelino’s squad, Ilias Akomach and Gerard Moreno remain sidelined long-term.
