Luke Thomas has been severely lacking game time at Leicester City and could fancy a January loan move

A cloud of uncertainty hangs over a managerless West Brom, who have been without a chief since Carlos Corberan departed for Valencia last month, and that threatens to wreak havoc to their January transfer window plans.

Without a permanent chief in charge, the club will naturally be reluctant to add to the playing squad as the incoming manager perhaps won't be keen on the players signed, so strengthening the team right now is tricky.

It's not ideal for a West Brom side chasing promotion, as they've had to sit back and watch most of their rivals dipping into the market while they simply watch on from the side with bigger fish to try at the moment.

The Baggies are firmly in the play-off picture in the Championship, and fortunately for them, Corberan's departure hasn't yet proved to be a crushing blow to the side as they've managed to keep some forward momentum in a time of crisis.

They can ill-afford to rest on their laurels though, with the promotion race so intense this season, and sooner or later they'll have to dip into the market properly or they risk getting left behind.

Callum Styles certainly isn't famed for his abilities at left back, and he didn't make a name for himself in the game by playing there, but this season most of his opportunities have come at left back.

You may be left think that he's a square peg in a round hole, and while that is probably true, he's excelled in that position for West Brom this term, capturing the hearts of Baggies fans for his endless endeavour.

Styles has the engine of a modern day full back, the defensive qualities to match, but it poses the question that if he's that good in a position that doesn't come naturally, would he be better moving forward if West Brom could find a longer-term left back solution.

One man who could certainly answer that call is Leicester City's Luke Thomas, who has found first team football hard to come by for most of the season and would perhaps be open to a move in January.

He replicates everything that Styles brings as a left back, but bringing him into the fold would allow the Hungarian cap to move into a more natural position if need be.

West Brom also have to think that the incoming manager, whoever that may be, will perhaps want to play an out-and-out left back there rather than a midfielder filling in, however well he's filled in.

Leicester City could look to move Luke Thomas on this month

Down the pecking order at the King Power Stadium, Thomas himself could be open to a move to The Hawthorns, and he has played in the Championship before, spending the second half of last season on loan at Middlesbrough.

Since Ruud van Nistelrooy has been appointed as Foxes chief, the Dutchman has largely favoured Victor Kristiansen at left back and indeed, the only games Thomas has featured in are the ones where Kristiansen hasn't been in the squad.

West Brom could certainly offer him more regular football and it would be a deal that works well for both parties if he were to join until the end of the season.

Naturally, any deal would perhaps have to be sanctioned by the incoming manager, but with very limited options in that position since Conor Townsend's departure in the summer, there's an argument to be had that they need a left back regardless.

They may have to move quickly though, as Thomas is unlikely to be short of Championship suitors if it transpires that he's available.
